Enhancing education and training through data-driven adaptable games in flipped classrooms

The Flip2G project aims to establish a Knowledge Alliance between higher education institutions, schools and private companies that will boost skills development and introduce novel, data-driven approaches to education and training.

This project was framed in the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union to support education, training, youth, and sport in Europe.

Integrating Learning Analytics and Semantics in Problem Based Learning

The current ever-changing world causes economies, technologies and professional domains to constantly transform. As a result, all sectors require competent workforce with skills to quickly adapt to rapid changes.

The Problem Based Learning (PBL) strategy addresses this challenge by accommodating active learners’ participation and corresponding skills development. However, PBL in its present mode has reached its maximum
potential and should exploit innovative ways to unleash new capabilities. On the other hand, innovative approaches, like Learning Analytics (LA), can be confusing and overwhelming since they are still under-explored and lack structure.

The project aims to integrate LA in PBL to capitalize on their respective strengths and overcome their drawbacks.

Publishing and Enriching Linked Open Statistical Data for the Development of Data Analytics and Enhanced Visualization Services

OpenCube will facilitate the cost effective exploitation of open statistical data for the development of innovative services through enhanced data analytics and visualizations.

The ultimate goal of OpenCube project is to facilitate (a) publishing of high-quality linked statistical data, and (b) reusing distributed linked statistical datasets to perform advanced data analytics and visualization

Innovative Open Data Education and Training based on PBL and Learning Analytics

Open Data initiatives worldwide are boosting with an aim to increase transparency and contribute to economic growth. With a global annual economic potential value estimated to $3 trillion, this boost seems justified. Current progress however is not satisfactory.

We believe a main reason is the lack of relevant skills and competencies. Indeed, currenteducation and training activities are scarce and do not exploit practice-oriented learning methods such as Problem Based Learning (PBL).

As a result, public servants are missing skills related to publishing open data. Similarly, companies and entrepreneurs are missing skills related to re-using open data. Students are not provided with sufficient and properly-structured academic courses.

The project aims to establish a Knowledge Alliance between academia, business and the public sector that will boost Open Data education and training.

Innovative Enterprise Architecture Education and Training (EA Training 2.0)

The project aims to identify the training and educational needs of employees in the public and private sectors and of university students regarding Enterprise Architecture (EA) and to fulfil these using innovative pedagogies and practices based on Web 2.0 technologies and active, Problem-Based learning approaches. Specifically, the project aims to:

  • Determine the required skills, knowledge and attitudes that university students, public servants and private sector employees must acquire in order to become competent Enterprise Architects;
  • Identify innovative training and teaching methods based on Web 2.0 technologies and active, Problem-Based learning approaches;
  • Develop a Web 2.0 platform and course models for university students and employees. The foreseen training courses will be created in English translated in German, Greek and Polish;
  • Undertake pilot trials for private sector employees, public servants and university students.
